Program
Economic Growth
Objective: Increased trade competitiveness in targeted industries
Overview
Economic growth activities focus primarily on external trade and competitiveness and macroeconomic and fiscal policy reforms. Assistance is aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of three key sectors in the economy – tourism, agriculture, and entertainment and culture – through targeted training, technical assistance and institutional strengthening for the private sector. Driven by needs expressed by the Government of Jamaica and the private sector, activities also work to improve the regulatory, legislative, and policy environment for business development and growth at the country-level. Activities include identifying and amending legislation, regulations and policies that constrain business and impede investment and overall economic growth; supporting public-private alliances; and increasing the availability of reasonably priced credit for businesses.
