Objective: Increased trade competitiveness in targeted industries

Economic growth activities focus primarily on external trade and competitiveness and macroeconomic and fiscal policy reforms. Assistance is aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of three key sectors in the economy – tourism, agriculture, and entertainment and culture – through targeted training, technical assistance and institutional strengthening for the private sector.Learn more...

Rural Development

Objective: Natural assets managed for rural development and sustainable economic growth

USAID’s environmental activities intend to strengthen relationships between effective natural resources management, rural development and sustainable economic growth in Jamaica. Assistance to address Jamaica’s environmental issues will focus on improving the management of ecosystems such as watersheds, increasing institutional capacity of targeted community and national-level personnel to manage natural assets, and enhancing environmentally and economically sustainable rural enterprises in tourism and agribusiness.Learn more...

Health

Objective: Improved health status among youth and most vulnerable groups

Activities improve and promote healthy lifestyle behaviors among youth by addressing adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, as well as violence prevention and substance abuse. Working in partnership with the Government of Jamaica, USAID activities seek to improve the quality and accessibility of health services for young people, improve health policies related to youth, and strengthen the ability of youth-serving non-governmental organizations to offer healthy lifestyles programs.Learn more...

Education

Objective: Improved education of targeted Jamaican youth

Educational activities are designed to improve the quality of education for youth who are at risk of dropping out, as well as for those in poorly performing schools, through multiple approaches, including strengthening classroom teaching quality. Assistance addresses the resource constraints of Jamaica’s schools by engaging parents, communities, and the private sector as partners in education.Learn more...

Democracy & Goverance

Objective: Increased accountability, citizen security and participation

USAID’s democracy and governance activities provide assistance to civil society organizations, local non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations to increase their participation in and strengthen their advocacy role on governance related issues, including issues such as crime and violence. Assistance supports community policing activities through technical assistance and grants to local organizations in inner-city communities to reduce crime and violence and strengthen community trust.Learn more...
